KOFXII Patch Update lolwhut

kofxii_update.jpg

lol whut? 772 MB for a ‘patch’? That’s a whole freaking PS1 game! The worst part is that if the patch download fails, I need to restart ALL. OVER. AGAIN. WTF?

As much as I love KOF, this game was clearly released unfinished. And I don’t understand why it took them so long to release such barebones gameplay features when BlazBlue has tons more stuff in it…and more eye candy too. Perhaps they were too busy spending their resources on Witch Tits Touching 2.

The huge patch update is giving me Summer Days deja vu.

6 Endless Eight episodes…WTF

son_of_a_bitch.jpg

Tonight’s episode of Endless Eight sees Kyon failing to stop Haruhi repeating the summer. AGAIN. That means next week will be Endless Eight. AGAIN. Next week’s episode will make it the 6th episode dedicated to Endless Eight. Will it be the last? Who knows.

I can’t imagine any producer or studio ballsy enough to reanimate the same episode 6 freaking times (or to be exact, 5 times since the gang doesn’t realize it until the 2nd episode). I’ll be both impressed and disgusted if they actually go and do a whole 8 episodes of the same story. It’d be worse than a standard Naruto recap episode. But with the new Summer episodes already out, I already have better things to watch. Let me know when they finally break this ridiculous time loop.

Blood: The Last Vampire (2009) Review

blood_last_vampire.jpg

A bloody mess in more ways than one.

Where do I start? The wooden acting? The Engrish lines? Poorly edited fighting and story scenes? The incredibly obvious CG blood and monsters? Or the stupifying ending that left half the audience speechless? It’s all of them, really. Continue Reading »

CyberFusion 2009 Begins

img_5060_0.jpg

I’m now at CyberFusion 2009 at CyberJaya, where nearly 200 gamers are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for longest LAN party with a record of 38 hours. The record will begin at approximately one hour’s time at 12 Midnight, and will end at Sunday 2 p.m.

Right now I’m just updating some drivers and chillin’. I’m kinda kicking myself since I forgot to bring my copy of Call of Duty 4 to the event, but I reckon Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Sudden Attack, and Dawn of War II will keep me awake for the duration of the record.

I will be twittering every now and then, so keep an eye on my Twitter page @fatcatlim

Just Watched Dragon Ball: Evolution

at_first_but_then.png

I knew Dragon Ball: Evolution movie was going to suck, so I was prepared for all sorts of major suckage. And true enough, it didn’t disappoint in this department. Some observations:

  • What’s up with Chow Yuen Fatt’s way of talking? Throughout the movie, he looked like he just chewed on a whole plate of spicy chillies.
  • Justin Chatwin’s acting was actually okay, especially in the beginning. But later on, he starts to sound very monotone when he talks about finding the Dragon Balls with Chow Yuen Fatt, like he’s reading someone’s cue card offscreen.
  • Yumcha has the worst American hick accent I’ve ever heard. It’s like a bastard child of an Australian and a redneck.
  • I could hardly make out Piccolo’s “clones” when they fought Goku underground. No wait, scratch that - I couldn’t see jack shit. I guess they ran out of budget rendering their faces.
  • Really, really crappy, amateur editing near the end of the movie, showing the transition of Oozaru to Goku. I guess they again ran out of budget here too.
  • The World Martial Arts Tournament scene got only 2 minutes of screentime, lol. They might as well not include it at all.

So in the end, what has the Dragon Ball: Evolution movie taught me? It taught me that years of fighting experience and training can be skipped as long as there is the allure of a hot girl promising to snog you at the end of your training. Sex is the greatest motivator!

DRM irony

ahahahaha_ohwow.jpg

Because my copy of Dawn of War II is original, I need to download the official patches and updates from Steam before I can start playing. Problem is, Streamyx connectivity to some international sites has been really, really shitty for the last few days. This includes today as well, where my download speeds are as fast as 56K modem and sometimes it times out, which means I need to restart my download.

Compare this to a friend who installed the cracked version and started playing immediately.

Oh the irony of playing original games.

Haruhi Season 2 in April…NOT (Update)

haruhi_s2_dateconfirm.jpg

So a commercial for the latest March 2009 Newtype issue has revealed that the second season of Haruhi will be launched in April. Well, that’s really nice news to wake up to. And about damn time, too.

I only hope that when they say ‘April’, they don’t mean a broadcast date of ‘April 2010‘. Well, we’ll find out in a week’s time when the Newtype issue is finally out on the newstands.

UPDATE: Oh God…it’s not a second season. It’s a bloody rerun. I initially did suspect it to be a remake when I recalled earlier news about the so-called “new” Haruhi series being a “relaunch” of the first season. But now it seems to be confirmed that it’s not a second season.

You know what’s worse than not releasing any news on a series sequel? It’s raising fans’ hopes and then crushing them. This isn’t just terrible marketing: it’s MEAN. Who the HELL thought trolling fans was a good thing? Whoever thought this was a ’smart’ way of bringing in new viewers or reigning in loyal fans should be fired immediately and pushed onto railroad tracks.

I don’t really blame KyoAni for this fiasco since I doubt they have much say on how to promote their series. If anything, I’d blame Kadokawa, the main publisher and licensor of the Haruhi franchise. They should know better. But it looks like they don’t.

The fans backlash isn’t going to be pretty.

Kurokami The Animation Episode 3 Rage

kurokami03_whatsgoingonlol.jpg

Seriously, what kind of idiot asks this kind of question when your teacher is beating the shit out of a little girl in front of you???? It’s bad enough that Keita is reimagined as an emo highschool student, but I didn’t think they’d also make his skull thickheaded. Maybe when his mom got hit by the car when he was younger, mommy’s body rebounded off his skull. That would explain why he’s so slow on the uptake.

Ranting on Fallout 3 “endings”

fallout3_ending.jpg

So I finally finished Fallout 3 last night. My final thoughts?

“Is that it?”

Wow, talk about underwhelming. I don’t care so much about my character dying in the end. I know some sites and many gamers have complained about the ending feeling that they had a proverbial gun pointed at their head when they were asked to make the decision about entering the airlock chamber alone. No, I don’t mind dying. I’ve played enough JRPGs and watched enough anime/movies where the hero sacrifices himself for the betterment of humankind and his loved ones. I was kinda expecting this kind of ending.

What I’m more upset about is that the ending feels disappointingly shallow. Continue Reading »

KOF Movie Details - EPIC PHAIL

“It also looks like the King of Fighters movie will introduce a new science fiction spin into the setting established in the games’ universe by following the surviving members of three legendary fighting clans who are continually whisked away to other dimensions by an evil power. As the fighters enter each new world they battle that universe’s native defenders, while the force that brought them seeks to find a way to invade and infect our world.”

Source: Movieset

For fucks sake, why must they go do a Mortal Kombat rip-off and put in a new plot? The Orochi storyline is perfect fodder for a movie, and you pull this sci-fi bullshit on us??? Not even the weak NESTS story had this lame cross dimensional bullshit.

Christ, what a way for the KOF Live Action Movie to debut.
