Animax-Asia has sent me a press release on their upcoming “I Wanna be an Entrepreneur!” contest at the Animax Youth Festival. The good news is that the contest submission date has been extended to 4th July 2008, so that means you have a week to go to submit your business proposals and hopefully, be selected for promotions. ;)

For more info, you can check out the Animax Youth Festival mini site. Full original press release after the jump.

Guitar Hero: On Tour impressions

guitar_hero_on_tour_-_single_player.jpg

It’s finger-cramping great! Will post more impressions tonight, once I unlock more songs.

Update:

- Good list of songs with a smattering of more mainstream offerings. They have All Star by Smashmouth, which is one of my favorite songs of all time! Cramming 26 full-length songs on the DS is quite an accomplishment.

- The pick stylus is nifty, but the placeholder in the Guitar Grip isn’t very secure; it can be easily disloged by a good shake. When I got home from work, I found that the pick stylus had become disloged from the Guitar Grip even though I had put it in my bag.

- I never liked the Battle Mode in Guitar Hero III, which means I don’t like Guitar Duel mode as it is essentially the same mode but it makes use of the DS microphone and touchscreen features. Songs are meant to be fun and enjoyed. Stopping constantly during a song to blow off virtual fire or to autograph a stupid fan’s personal keepsake is NOT fun. If not for the one unlockable song, I’d never touch this mode.

- Even though there’s one less button to play, Hard mode is quite a challenge even if you’re an Expert player. This is because of the smaller keys and the position of the grip restricts your finger movement. Doing complicated solo hammer ons and pull-offs is tricky, but not impossible. Terribly fun though.

- Where’s my slow down? The Practice Mode doesn’t have adjustable speeds, so how am I going to practice tricky solos? This is an oversight.

Meet the Sniper + new Pyro weapon?

pyro_gun_02.jpg

Team Fortress 2’s latest character introduction trailers see the solitary Australian sniper doing his show-and-tell session, and it’s a real corker. But if you looked at the trailer closely as the Sniper claims his Pyro target, you’ll notice a little gem: the Pyro holding a gun-like weapon! Looks like it will be one of the new unlockable weapons for the Pyro which will be announced tomorrow, which will either replace the flamethrower or the shotgun (my money’s on the shotgun).

pyro_gun.jpg

So what kind of gun is it? It’s unlikely that it’s a grenade launcher-type of weapon as there doesn’t seem to be a large launcher receptacle compared to the Demoman’s. Some posters on the 4chan /v/ board has speculated that it could be a flare gun with a splash radius with a long reload time and low ammo count. It’s possible if the flare gun is used as a setup before using the Axtinguisher.

Great Balls

pocketgamer_plagiarise_0.jpg

Plagiarism is a cardinal sin for any writer, and it takes great balls for a writer to copy and paste another writer’s work. The original review, taken from Pocket Gamer is one such example. Half of the review was copy pasted word-for-word and published in a rival local IT magazine. Sadly, I’m familiar with the writer who ‘wrote’ this mobile game review, so I must say I’m quite disappointed with his action.

Protip: Copying and pasting a part of an article without an intro is a surefire way to raise suspicion, especially when you begin a review with a conjunction.

Essence of Chicken = Quintessential Gamer Energy Drink

brands.jpg

Need to stay alert and ahead of the competition when playing videogames? Instead of sugary energy drinks or dodgy health supplements, why not try something more natural and tried-and-tested? Like Brand’s Essence of Chicken? I saw this ad in today’s the Sun newspaper (page 22, bottom panel) while having lunch today. Normally Brand’s ads target college students and business professionals; it’s the first time I’ve actually seen a popular health supplement targeting gamers. Maybe because the ESWC and WCG tournaments are around the corner…

Eddy Yap of Gamer’s Hideout looks quite pumped up in the ad. Hmm, will my Spy detection skills in Team Fortress 2 improve if I start taking Brand’s? XD
