Sony PlayStation 3 Malaysia Launch Gallery
I’m quite tired from attending the launch since this morning at 8:45 a.m. so I’m just going to post the gallery here for your convenience. Some pictures have captions to them, which should explain most of the event that went on this morning. In the meantime, I’m taking a catnap!
Malaysia PS3 Pre-launch (night)
12 hours have passed since I last visited the launch event area in the morning. The queue has grown considerably (there’re more than 50 people waiting in line now), and the players taking part in the 24-hour gaming marathon continues to see a steady stream of players replacing other contestants when they lose their matches.

Just a day to go to the launch of the Sony PlayStation 3 in Malaysia but things are already moving. This morning, I went to the event launch area to check out the 24-hour gaming competition and found a couple dozen gamers waiting around the main entrance, watching Sony staff set up the event area. Double Arts ends after 23 chapters
Why is it all the good manga series that I like ends early, while the really shitty ones get prolonged plots that go nowhere, drawn out battles, and stupid endings? Why did this happen to Double Arts, a series that I was having fun reading for a while only to find out today that it has been canceled, after a mere 23 chapters?
Fuck you, readers of Shonen Jump Weekly. Go ahead and continue to wank off to Naruto and Bleach. Because you wouldn’t know good storylines or series when you see it.
GameAxis September 2008
This month, our cover for the September 2008 issue of GameAxis Malaysia is just bursting with color. It’s a relief as I was getting tired of all those dreary brown palette typical of next-gen ‘HD’ games, which I’m seeing a lot now in Mercenaries 2 on the PS3. The game is incredibly buggy too, and the voice work can get ridiculously repetitive. But there’s a certain guilty pleasure at being able to blow up just about anything in the whole game, and the explosions are grand and a sight to watch.
You’ll also note that we have a special ‘burst’ balloon on the cover, announcing the details of the PS3 launch. I’m really glad that we managed to put the news of the launch on the cover in time, even though the original price for the bundle has since been slightly revised. I’m really looking forward to the upcoming PS3 launch party as it’s further recognition of the growing game community and industry in the country. Now we’ll just have to see how Microsoft will respond to this latest development.
I’ll be rushing to finish our October issue as I’ll be leaving for my Japan trip at the end of the month. Of course we won’t be compromising on the quality of the articles; we’ll just be stepping up our production flow this month. Our October issue is going to be awash with a different set of colors - one that I’m sure you’ll be seeing red all over. 
Malaysia PS3 Launch Details
Just received the press release from Sony Malaysia on the launch event. The press release more or less confirmed that the launch event will still take place on the 20th of September 2008 at 1Utama Shopping Centre. However, the number of cash vouchers that will be given out to early birds has been increased to 120. Good news for those who thought they might miss out on the goodies.
Points to note in the press release:
- Launch is confirmed 20th September 2008 at 1Utama.
- Special bundle price is confirmed RM1,799, which comes with the 80GB PS3, SCIV, One selected PS3 game (Resistance, Ratchet and Clank Future, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, or Assassin’s Creed), one PS3 tote bag, and one SCIV CD holder
- The number of cash vouchers given out to early birds who line up on the day of the launch is now 120, instead of only 100.
- The PS3 will be available at all Sony Style outlets and selected Sony Centre outlets from 20th September
- Confirmation of the Game Girls Competition and Game Marathon competition

PS3 Malaysia Official Launch (for real!)
So we finally got the OFFICIAL press release and it confirms one of my earlier blog post about the PS3 launching in Malaysia. The console will be the new 80GB model which comes with the DualShock 3 controller and it will retail at RM1,599. Not a bad price.
Note that I’ve taken down the original blog post about the event launch at 1Utama as some details haven’t been confirmed. But there should be an official word from Sony Malaysia soon.
