PS3 Malaysia Official Launch (for real!)
So we finally got the OFFICIAL press release and it confirms one of my earlier blog post about the PS3 launching in Malaysia. The console will be the new 80GB model which comes with the DualShock 3 controller and it will retail at RM1,599. Not a bad price.
Note that I’ve taken down the original blog post about the event launch at 1Utama as some details haven’t been confirmed. But there should be an official word from Sony Malaysia soon.

That’s about the price i paid to get the 40GB model with 2 controllers (one non dual shock) and 2 games from HK. Will they launch with cheaper models too? Coz i think it’s a lil steep.
I guess the extra 40GB would have to be accounted but still… is the backwards compatibility for PS2 worth the extra cash? 80gigs is nothing to us techies and i’m sure we’ll upgrade the hard disk to something a lil bigger if you’re like me and download all the lastest demos and store a tonne of my pictures and music and stuff.
Most of us don’t even own that many original PS2 games to even make use of it here in Malaysia. So I doubt the 80 will sell all that well. I’d even go for the 20GB model if it’s still in production to save a lil extra on cost
The new model comes with the DualShock 3 controller, so I think it’s an okay price. But it isn’t backwards compatible with PS2 games. The launch bundle which costs RM1,799 is a bit more worth it since it comes with 2 games and the 1-year warranty.
