Guitar Hero: On Tour impressions

It’s finger-cramping great! Will post more impressions tonight, once I unlock more songs.

Update:

- Good list of songs with a smattering of more mainstream offerings. They have All Star by Smashmouth, which is one of my favorite songs of all time! Cramming 26 full-length songs on the DS is quite an accomplishment.

- The pick stylus is nifty, but the placeholder in the Guitar Grip isn’t very secure; it can be easily disloged by a good shake. When I got home from work, I found that the pick stylus had become disloged from the Guitar Grip even though I had put it in my bag.

- I never liked the Battle Mode in Guitar Hero III, which means I don’t like Guitar Duel mode as it is essentially the same mode but it makes use of the DS microphone and touchscreen features. Songs are meant to be fun and enjoyed. Stopping constantly during a song to blow off virtual fire or to autograph a stupid fan’s personal keepsake is NOT fun. If not for the one unlockable song, I’d never touch this mode.

- Even though there’s one less button to play, Hard mode is quite a challenge even if you’re an Expert player. This is because of the smaller keys and the position of the grip restricts your finger movement. Doing complicated solo hammer ons and pull-offs is tricky, but not impossible. Terribly fun though.

- Where’s my slow down? The Practice Mode doesn’t have adjustable speeds, so how am I going to practice tricky solos? This is an oversight.
